THEATER
Now considered a classic in “southern Gothic” style, Pulitzer-Prize-winning play Crimes of the Heart explores the dysfunctional lives of the McGrath sisters with affection and a penetrating sense of humor. Directed by Sharon Ammen, remembered for her Mystery of Irma Vep and her own adaptation of Velveteen Rabbit in former CRT seasons, this Beth Henley masterpiece examines the close connection between laughter and tears, heartache and joy and the strength of family ties that endure even through the most difficult hardships.
Edmond Dantes finds himself imprisoned in the dungeon of the Chateau D’If. Or is he imprisoned in the torturous fictional circumstances of a novel by a man names Alexandre Dumas? Don Nigro takes the familiar story of The Count of Monte Cristo and turns it on its head, pitting author against character in this stirring exploration of the creative process.
Don Nigro is an extremely prolific writer, having penned over 300 plays. These works have been produced from the regional theater stage to off-Broadway. His play Ravenscroft was adapted into the film The Manor. He continues to write from his home in Ohio.
Step back in time and witness the captivating (and captive) Scheherazade as she weaves tales to earn her freedom from the tyrannical Sultan. But when things go awry, how can she win him back? She’ll have to think fast if she wants to see the light of day again. With spellbinding characters ranging from a singing prophetic bird to the brave Aladdin and his magical lamp, veteran CRT actor/director Brandon Wentz spins his story-telling magic into a production that every member of the family can enjoy.
Our version of the award-winning musical Godspell takes place in an abandoned bus station in the city, where eleven young seekers gather and re-embody key events of the Gospel According to St. Matthew and, in the process, discover a sense of community and a profound selfawareness of themselves as individuals of faith. One of the most exciting scores in the musical theater repertoire, Godspell features some of Stephen Schwartz’s most memorable songs -- ones that entertain even as they lift the heart and spirit – including: “Prepare Ye,” “Day by Day,” “All Good Gifts,” “Bless the Lord,” “Light of the World,” and “We Beseech Thee.”
Experience the topsy-turvy world of Haley, a single mom in New York City, as she shares her adventures of making a living, raising an alienated teenage daughter, and trying to meet Mister
Right. Dating disasters and even the Romanian Mafia do not deter her from forever pushing forward in this wonderfully funny, insightful but ultimately uplifting monologue-style play, by one of America's leading playwrights and starring CRT’s very own fireball, Julie Dixon.
